sorry you didn’t get the job!! it’s literally the worst feeling :( as someone else who is currently battling the uk job market i get it, it’s really rough right now!! i will say from a former barista it’s a cute job at first but it depends where you go! if it’s not a chain then you’ll enjoy it, if it is then avoid it at all costs
I’m gutted you missed out on that job (after getting down to the wire) 😭 but I love that you dropped the word ‘debonaire’ in this piece. It’s a word I don’t see nearly enough.
Any days spent unemployed feel scary, so I’m not surprised the fear kicked in after 5. It’s funny, 5 days off when you’re employed is heaven, but 5 days unemployed is hell. Makes me realise it’s all a matter of perspective. But from someone who was unemployed for 4 months, had a mortgage to pay & bills to pay, and only 1 response to the (almost) hundred jobs I applied for… I survived, so I know you will too!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment Genevieve 💙 and you’re completely right about the perspective part of things - I would love having a week off if I were employed, but am just filled with blind panic being unemployed!
Thank you so much for the encouragement 💙 that time must have been so scary for you!!
I’m not sure how you frequently manage to write exactly what’s in my head and life lol, but I am also a job hopper. It’s hard not to just jump ship when things are stupid bc why would I waste my life doing something stressful and making myself miserable? Unemployment really does take its toll though too. I’m slowly catching up on substack posts from months ago, so hoping things are better for you now!!
